Tex Goes to Murdoch's

Tex Goes to Murdoch's

On June 16 and June 17 Tex, the Longhorn, went with Mrs. Normann-Petersen and Ms. Coltharp to Texas Computer Education Association’s Tots and Technology.  After the conference Tex, Ms. Coltharp, Mrs. Normann-Petersen, and Connor and Riley Vodehnal went to Murdoch’s a souvenir shop on Galveston’s Seawall. Below is a list of things that we asked Tex to report back to us.

          1.   Where is Tex?  (name of city, state, country)
Tex is in Galveston, TX with Ms. Coltharp, Mrs. Normann-Petersen, and
Connor and Riley Vodehnal.  After spending two days in Professional
development, everyone wanted to go souvenir shopping.

          2. What is the geography like there? (mountains, plains, coastal, lakes, etc.)
Galveston is a coastal city located on Galveston Island and Pelican Island in the U.S. state of Texas. Galveston is 208.3 square miles, its population is 47,762 people, is the county seat of Galveston County.

3.  What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?
Many residents and tourists of Galveston love to dine on seafood, especially shrimp.  Shrimp and Stuff is Ms. Coltharp’s favorite restaurant and Bubba Gump’s is Mrs. Normann-Petersen’s favorite restaurant.

4.  What types of jobs are there? (agricultural, manufacturing, commercial, etc)   The shrimping business is one of the most prevalent jobs in Galveston as well as tourism.

5.  What are the popular sports or games played there?  What popular sports or games interest you, your family, and your friends?Fishing, boating, bird watching, beaching, building sandcastles, looking for seashells, and walking the beach are most popular activities in Galveston.

6.  Where are you going next Tex? Give us a hint and see if we can figure it
before you get there! Please see Tex’s Clue at the end of this post.

7.  Tex, can you include any pictures of yourself and surrounding area and/or
landmarks? Tex has included several pictures from his trip to Murdoch’s

Tex, Mrs. Normann-Petersen were shocked how much seaweed was on the beach.  There was mounds and mounds of it everywhere.

After looking at the seaweed, we walked over to Murdoch’s and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the souvenir store.  Some of the things that Tex and Mrs. Normann-Petersen saw in the store were shark foam hats, shark teeth, shark puppets, foam boogie boards, seashells.  Mrs. Normann-Petersen’s favorite thing was the painted wood with the cut-out where you put your head into and you can have your taken.  Tex liked the Conch Shells the best because you can hear the ocean in it.

After exploring the seashells Tex, Connor, and Riley stumbled upon the box of crawfish.  Connor and Riley love the crawfish and got to take one home.  On the other hand Tex did not like the crawfish.  Their pinchers scared him!

As Tex and Mrs. Normann-Petersen were leaving Murdoch’s Tex wanted to take his picture with the beautiful Clam Shells and Mrs. Normann-Petersen wanted to walk to the beach.

Tex's clue for his next stop:  This school is located in the southwest part of Houston, and is where Mrs. Normann-Petersen’s loves to spend much or her time here during the school year.  There are a lot of teachers and students at this location.  Can you guess where Tex went on this next visit?  Please email Mrs. Normann-Petersen if you think you have a guess!
