Texas Goes to Fort Bend County Fair

Tex, the Longhorn, recently attended the Fort Bend County Parade with Mrs. Normann-Petersen. After the parade they went to the Fort Bend County Fair.   Tex answered the following questions:
1.    Where is TexThe Fort Bend County Parade and Fair.  The parade started at the courthouse in Richmond, TX traveling down HWY 90 and ended at Jeanetta Street in Rosenberg.  The Fort Bend Fair is located at the Fort Bend fairgrounds 4310 HWY 36 S. Rosenberg, TX 77471

  1. What is the geography like there? The parade goes through two small towns in Fort Bend County.  On parade route you see will the courthouse, quaint small houses with white picket fences, grocery stores, restaurants, and auto mechanic shops.  Parade goers will also line the streets cheering for their favorite float, Fort Bend queen contestant, favorite high school marching bands, or favorite cheerleaders and/or drill teams.  The fairgrounds are mostly surrounded by fields and located off HWY. 59.

  1. What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?  Breakfast food is typically eaten during the parade since it begins at 8:00 a.m.  For example, some of the breakfast foods we ate were donuts, kolaches, bananas, and yogurt.  At the fair there is a wide array of food to be eaten.  For example, funnel cakes, jumbo corn dogs, cotton candy, hamburgers, French fries, huge turkey legs, Schulze’s bar-be-que, corn on the cob, and much more!


  1. What types of jobs are there? Gate keepers, ticket sales, ticket takers, rodeo sweethearts, Agriculture students, Agriculture teachers, police officers, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, cowboys, cowgirls, judges for the livestock show, judges for the rodeo, maintenance men, and support staff are the most common jobs found associated with the Fort Bend Fair.

  1. What are the popular sports or games played there?  What popular sports or games interest you, your family, and your friends? Rodeo, of course!

Tex enjoyed watching the sheriff, police, and fire departments go by each from the local cities!





 Ronald McDonald and Swatson, the Sugar Land Skeeters mascot, waved to all the children and to Tex.


There were a lot of cowgirls and cowboys including the Rodeo Sweethearts in the parade including trail riders.




Tex is enjoying the sights and sounds of one of the many marching bands and drill teams.




After the parade Tex went to the Fort Bend Fair where he learned about harvesting rice and cotton.

Tex also learned about many animals including cows and goats.   Tex had his picture also taken with the hay. Cows like to eat hay and grain.

Tex Attends a Play

Tex, the Longhorn, recently attended the performance of Sleeping Beauty at Company OnStage.   Tex answered the following questions:

1.  Where is TexCompany OnStage, 36 Westbury Square, Houston, TX  77035

  1. What is the geography like there? Company OnStage is nestled in a corner of Westbury Square.  Since it is located in Westbury, you will see lots houses, people, cars, schools, churches, and the occasional grocery store.

  1. What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?  Food is not allowed inside the theater.  The actors and the audience are not allowed to eat inside the theater, but they like to eat many types food.  For example, some of their foods are apples, bananas, and fried chicken.
  
  1. What types of jobs are there? Actors, ticket sales, ticket takers, maintenance men, and support staff are the most common jobs found associated with the Company OnStage.

  1. What are the popular sports or games played there?  What popular sports or games interest you, your family, and your friends? Hopscotch, jumping rope, and hide and seek!

  1. Where are you going next Tex? Give us a hint and see if we can figure it before

Tex had his picture taken with Princess Rose, Sleeping Beauty, and Prince Waldown.


Tex enjoyed sitting on the stage, after the play of course!


 Here is Tex with the program of Sleeping Beauty. The program tells the audience a brief summary of the play, the author of the play, and the characters or actors.  Since Tex loves reading, he enjoys getting his picture taken with the program.

Tex Attends a Minor League Baseball Game

Tex, the Longhorn, spent the evening of August 23, 2015 attending the Sugar Land Skeeters game versus the Camden River Sharks.   Tex answered the following questions:
1.    Where is TexConstellation Field; 1 Stadium Drive  Sugar Land, TX  77498.  Home of the Sugar Land Skeeters, Sugar Land’s minor league baseball team.  The Skeeters are an affiliate of the Atlantic League Professional Baseball Team.

  1. What is the geography like there? Constellation Field is nestled amongst Sugar Land’s marsh areas where you might see an occasional alligator or bird.  Since it is located on Hwy 6 across the street from Sugar Land Regional Airport, you will see an airplane fly over and lots of whizzing by the stadium.

  1. What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?  The most common types of food eaten by the fans are hot dogs, popcorn, and ice cream.  The players do not have time to eat during the game, but do chew lots of bubble gum during game!


  1. What types of jobs are there? Baseball players, concession stand workers, waiters in the Suites, ticket sales, ticket takers, gate keepers, maintenance men, playground, splash pad, and carousel supervisors, and Support Staff are the most common jobs found associated with the Sugar Land Skeeters. We can’t forget about the mascots: Swatson and Moe.  They have fun entertaining the fans and the players.

Tex enjoyed his sunny Saturday evening cheering on the hometown team, the Sugar Land Skeeters! 





Here is Tex with Mrs. Normann- Petersen and everyone’s favorite Swatson.  Swatson is the mascot for the Skeeters.  His favorite food is hot dogs and his favorite movie is the Love Bug.

Tex Visist the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart

Tex, the Longhorn, spent August 7, 2015 attending Mass with the St. Thomas More teachers and staff along with 2000 other teachers from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in celebration of the new school year.  The Most Reverend Archbishop George Sheltz, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, was the celebrant.  Tex answered the  following questions:


1.  Where is TexCo-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 ST. JOSEPH PKWY @ SAN JACINTO, HOUSTON, TX 77002

  1. What is the geography like there? There are many tall buildings and many noisy vehicles whizzing by the Co-Cathedral.  Inside the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is a beautiful hand-crafted pipe organ.

  1. What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?  Everyone who attended this year’s Mass celebrating the new school year like a variety of foods.  It is too hard to list all of the favorite foods here, but some of the teacher’s favorites are seafood, Italian, cheeseburgers, and desserts.

  1. What types of jobs are there? Clergy, Teachers, Faculty, and Support Staff are the most common jobs found at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and of the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

  1. What are the popular sports or games played there?  What popular sports or games interest you, your family, and your friends? Some of the teacher’s favorite sports are swimming, football, soccer, and baseball.

Tex rode the light rail to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.



Tex enjoyed singing songs with the Catholic Schools Choir, seeing teachers receive their years of service awards, and admiring the beautiful altar.  Mrs. Warner, 4K teacher, received her 30 year service award as did Mrs. Fontent our librarian.






Tex had his picture taken in front of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Mother Mary, the statue of St. Joseph, and with the small rose bushes in front of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
