Tex Goes to the Co-Cathedral

Tex, the Longhorn, spent August 5, 2016 attending Mass with the St. Thomas More teachers and staff along with 2000 other teachers from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in celebration of the new school year.  Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Cardinal of Galveston-Houston, was the celebrant.  Tex answered the  following questions:

  1. Where is Tex?  Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 ST. JOSEPH PKWY @ SAN JACINTO, HOUSTON, TX 77002

  1. What is the geography like there? There are many tall buildings and many noisy vehicles whizzing by the Co-Cathedral.  Inside the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is a beautiful hand-crafted pipe organ.

  1. What are typical foods that are eaten there?   What type of foods do you and family and friends like to eat?  Everyone who attended this year’s Mass celebrating the new school year like a variety of foods.  It is too hard to list all of the favorite foods here, but some of the teacher’s favorites are seafood, Italian, cheeseburgers, and desserts.

  1. What types of jobs are there? Clergy, Teachers, Faculty, and Support Staff are the most common jobs found at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and of the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

  1. What are the popular sports or games played there?  What popular sports or games interest you, your family, and your friends? Some of the teacher’s favorite sports are swimming, football, soccer, and baseball.

  1. Where are you going next Tex? Give us a hint and see if we can figure it before
you get there! Tex’s clue is at the end of this post.
  1. Tex, can you include any pictures of yourself and surrounding area and/or landmarks?  Please see the pictures below of Tex’s trip to the Co-Cathedral.

Tex rode the light rail to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Tex enjoyed singing songs with the Catholic Schools Choir, seeing teachers receive their years of service awards, and admiring the beautiful altar.  Mrs. Winslow, Junior High teacher, received his 20 year service award as did Mrs. Izard our Dean of Students.

Tex had his picture taken in front of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Mother Mary, the statue of St. Joseph, and with the small rose bushes in front of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

The pictures below are from Tex’s trip back to St. Thomas More Parish School.

Here is Tex riding on the light rail back to St. Thomas More Parish School. Tex was anxious to get to Servant Hall at St. Thomas More Parish School.  He was hungry for lunch!

When we arrived back to St. Thomas More Parish School we ate a yummy lunch of fajitas from Esclante’s and celebrated Mr. Winslow and Mrs. Izard and their many years of service to Catholic Education.  Tex was excited to celebrate with the teachers.
